OMG is an acronym for Oh My God. It is the new internet buzzword that is used to describe an over-the-top response to an outrageous, off-the-wall comment or outrageous internet video. OMG originated from an Asian computer game called Player Unknown Battlegrounds.
The premise of Player Unknown is that the only way to win is to fight and kill the other players in this apocalyptic fantasy world. Other players are referred to as the Opponents and they have personalities, names, and other things that you might expect to find in a trashy dating magazine.
The first over-the-top response to an OMG video was OMG! This is an outtake from an internet video called Blue Whale Challenge. What happens is that it is just one random guy talking about how he is good at killing other players.
Many people saw this and thought, "Whoa, I think this is a long time coming." After all, with LOL and LOLC, you can actually type anything that you want in your profile or bios and you will only see a list of words that end in "lol". But with OMG, you have to actually say the word.
Then there is PMO, which is short for Pornomania On The Picture of Your Mom. The creator of this online phenomenon realized that the internet user base was crying out for a name that actually meant something, so they came up with the term "Mom On The Picture of Your Mom" and started using it all over the place. They basically had to come up with a new way to use acronyms to make everyone go crazy over their videos and online status updates.
Now, LOLC and LOLA, OMG and OMGZ, and PMO are just a few of the many names that have been given to some of the very funny relationship tips that these people give out. In some ways, it is like funny can mean anything and everything.
OMG is so much fun that people have started to do it as a form of defense mechanism. After all, you know what they say about being prepared. If your date or friend asks you to do something and you don't know how to do it, the response is just OMG!
OMG has become one of those words that just have a very long time and a very wide reach. It is even making its way into songs like "What Does the Fox Say", "I Love My Life," and even love songs.
OMG has even made its way into Great Sites, so you can check them out and get more information about it. Some sites that have a lot of information on OMG are: Wow!, Quora, Google, and even Yahoo Answers.
When someone goes OMG and says something like, "Oh my God, I would not live without my iPhone," they really mean it. They don't really need a reply, but they certainly appreciate the response.
Of course, there are still a lot of people who think that OMG is just a way to make fun of other people, but if you look at the popularity and success of the term, it is hard to argue with the concept. So, instead of getting defensive about OMG, why not see what this new trend has to offer?
